Overcast with fog has been the forecast in the mornings closely followed by sunshine and strong winds throughout the day into the evening. The wind this week has been battering fishermen on shore and from boats, One of the sfaest places to escape from the wind has been in the coves or from the South End. Fish also like to get out of the wind coves, so there's a good tip on where to start fishing for them. The Lake is almost at max capacity at 705 feet above sea level. Water temperature is still hovering right around 60 degrees. It's been fluctuating because of different weather patterns. The Department of Fish and Wildlife planted 2500 pounds of trout this week and they are already getting caught. The West side and West beaches are closed this weekend to accomodate Two-Day Town, a family friendly camping music festival. Monday is when the West will be accessible to general public. You can only enter the west this weekend if you have a ticket.
Rainbow Trout are still on the bite, eating worms, powerbaits, lures and crappie jigs. Most trout being caught are coming off the East beach nad in the coves on the Lake. Catfish are coming in numbers, some being quite large. The best baits to catch cats is anchovies, Sardines, mackerel and worms. On those same baits you can successfully catch stripers. Striped bass will also hit jerkbaits, top water baits and swim baits large and small. They are still hard to catch now,but the water is up and the shad will start to rise and the line sides will follow. In the warm months of summer you can watch entire schools on shakers and schoolies blow up and boil on bait fish like shad. That is the easiest time of year to catch them but were not quite there yet. You will reatd about it more when the action is here I'm just pre-warming everybody to get their gear ready for summer because it should be a striper blow out! Come see us up here at Del Valle to get good tips and get ready to rip some lips! Good Luck everybody!
