GENERAL CONDITIONS
Fishing at Point Pinole is picking up quickly! The Fall run seems to have started and stripers are the main angler’s choice. One striper caught on 10/15 measured 30 inches! Residents are fishing up and down the banks at Clayes Beach and in Hercules by Railroad Ave with multiple catches, according to fishermen. It appears that anchovies and jack smelt are the preferred cut-bait while jigs, spinners, and soft baits seem to be picking up stripers also. The hot color seems to be white in artificial baits. Many small leopard sharks are being caught but the bite is great for stripers.
The weather is windy and smoky at the pier. It has cleared up some from last week, but the air quality remains poor, as it does across the Bay.
Pier retrofit is complete, with all new benches, windscreens and cleaning station.
